Petition to the King for settling the Ohio River valley, 1748.

The petition was submitted by John Hanbury, London merchant, in behalf of himself, Thomas Lee, and others including Lawrence Washington. The petitioners request the king to instruct the governor of Virginia to grant the Company 500,000 acres of Ohio Valley land free of quit rent for ten years on which they will settle 100 families, erect a fort and maintain a garrison, fand carry on trade with the Indians, all of which will increase the crown's revenue and crreate a strong frontier.
